ILLUSORY FABRIC
In this project, I explored the relationship between texture, print, and illusion, using graphic design to recreate the appearance of fabrics through printed imagery.
Inspired by Renaissance painting, particularly the central figure of Botticelli’s La Primavera, I focused on the lightness, richness, and meticulous detail characteristic of Renaissance clothing and textiles.Building on previous experiments with printed textiles, I pushed the concept further by recreating forms, folds, textures, and ornamental details directly onto the garment. Instead of constructing these elements physically, I used print to create the illusion of fabric, volume, and richness.
The result is a contemporary reinterpretation of Renaissance aesthetics that blurs the boundary between material and image, reality and illusion.
MERCHANDISING
As part of the project, I developed a merchandising piece inspired by the same concept as the dress. A white long-sleeve T-shirt with printed Renaissance jewellery, with a necklace and two bracelets recreated as graphic illusions directly on the garment.
Designed as an accessible extension of the project, the T-shirt was created to be sold in the museum shop, allowing visitors to take a piece of the concept beyond the exhibition.
